What Lakeside helps with
Assessment and Intervention Services
Standardised and dynamic assessments to establish goals and provide intervention for speech sound difficulties, motor speech sound difficulties, literacy difficulties, receptive and expressive language skills, fluency, and children with diagnoses including ASD, GDD, Cerebral Palsy, and Down Syndrome.
Screening Assessment Services
Screening assessments for early education centres and primary schools identifying areas of difficulty in speech sound development, expressive and receptive language, written language, literacy, and pragmatic and social language development.
Home Programs
Individualised home programs designed to increase therapy progress between appointments or for children with difficulty accessing regular intervention.
Telehealth Services
Therapy, assessment and consultation delivered remotely via video call, allowing families to access support from home without the need to travel. Telehealth sessions cover most services including psychology, speech pathology, occupational therapy and counselling.
Professional Development

Our approach
Therapy sessions are designed to be fun and engaging, often looking like play depending on the child's age, with games, toys and activities that keep children motivated and excited to learn. Each session includes a check-in about the week, activities targeting the child's unique communication profile, and homework for the next session. The practice supports children with speech, language, fluency, literacy and social interaction through child-centred assessment and intervention in the environment that best suits them, whether at home, school, daycare or via telehealth. Evidence-based approaches are used, including accreditation in Lidcombe, DiR Floortime and Sounds Write. Parent involvement is integral to therapy success, with the therapist working closely with families to provide strategies and activities to support progress at home.
Working with families
Parents and caregivers are strongly incorporated into the therapy process to ensure communication support is functional and practical. During therapy, parent involvement is considered critical to success, with the therapist working closely with families as active participants in their child's treatment. The practice provides strategies and activities for parents to do at home between sessions, and values family-centred care and the development of strong relationships with clients. Regular communication with parents includes progress monitoring updates and adjustments to the treatment plan as needed.
Meet the team
Alecia is a certified practising speech language pathologist and member of Speech Pathology Australia, with a Bachelor of Speech Pathology from the University of Newcastle (2009) and over 10 years of experience in early intervention, early childhood settings, schools, community health and private practice in Australia and the United Kingdom. She has extensive experience with children under 7, speech sound disorders, early language development, literacy (as an approved Sounds Write provider), and complex communication needs, and is committed to multi-disciplinary assessment and neurodiversity affirming practice. As a part-time mobile practitioner and mother of three, she brings both professional expertise and practical understanding of managing family life alongside intervention.
Your first visit
The initial assessment begins with gathering a baseline of your child's speech and language abilities through formal and dynamic assessments, helping the therapist understand your child's strengths and areas of difficulty. Based on this assessment, a customised treatment plan is created tailored to your child's unique communication profile, including clear goals and strategies to achieve them. The therapist will work closely with you from the start to ensure you're an active participant in your child's treatment, providing strategies and activities to do at home. Progress is regularly monitored and the treatment plan adjusted as needed to support your child in achieving their communication goals.
