Our approach
Kids of Melbourne Speech Pathology uses a holistic, child and family-centred approach that recognises young children learn best through play and enjoyment. Therapy is built around each child's interests and strengths, with sessions often taking place in the child's own space rather than at a table, to keep them engaged and involved rather than simply taught. The focus is on developing functional skills that create meaningful change in the child's life, alongside building communication skills that underpin other areas of development and help children express themselves and form relationships. The service works from a strengths-based approach and celebrates each child's unique abilities while supporting areas of need.
Working with families
Family involvement is central to Kids of Melbourne Speech Pathology's approach, with the input of families and other supporting people considered integral from assessment through to goal setting and intervention. The service works collaboratively with families from the start, recognising their role in supporting the child's development and celebrating wins together while building on areas of need.
Meet the team
Kids of Melbourne Speech Pathology is led by Mariam Mangioros, the Principal Speech Pathologist, who graduated from Latrobe University in 2003 and holds Certified Practising Speech Pathology status with Speech Pathology Australia. Mariam is described as an experienced speech pathologist who brings skills, depth of experience and strategic thinking to her practice, meeting each child at their ability and engagement level.
