Our approach
At In Focus Learning, tutoring sessions are personalised and tailored to each student's individual needs, combining theory, practice, and interactive activities. The approach focuses on building three core qualities: Learn (understanding what students really need to know and applying it effectively), Challenge (encouraging growth and new levels of confidence), and Inspire (fostering self-belief and the ability to inspire others). Sessions blend targeted skill-building with a supportive, encouraging learning environment designed to make learning rewarding and achievable. The provider emphasises authentic learning experiences that develop both academic capabilities and broader life skills, with students working at their own pace in a positive atmosphere.
Working with families
Parents are involved from the outset, beginning with a complimentary initial consultation where the provider discusses goals and needs with the family. The team works closely with families (and schools, where relevant) to understand each child's learning objectives and create tailored plans. For students with disabilities, this partnership extends to working with NDIS plan managers and families to ensure support aligns with broader learning goals. Regular, personalised tutoring allows parents to step back knowing their child is receiving focused, high-quality support, freeing families to manage other responsibilities while their child's educational needs are met.
Meet the team
The team is led by Kieren Beard, Founder and Principal Tutor in English, who has over 10 years of experience teaching secondary English in NSW schools and holds a Bachelor of Secondary Education and Bachelor of Arts (Honours) from the University of Sydney, plus a Master of Education Leadership from the University of Wollongong. Additional tutors include Amir Chami (English, Maths, PDHPE, HSIE), Grace Azzi (Chemistry, Biology, English), Samira Ahmad (English, Maths, Chemistry, Biology), and Tashfia Miah (Mathematics), all qualified to teach primary and secondary levels. All tutors are described as highly qualified professionals, experienced teachers, and graduates with specialised degrees in education. The team is trained in adaptive teaching methods and experienced across diverse student populations and learning needs.
Your first visit
The first appointment begins with a complimentary initial consultation to discuss your child's needs, goals, and learning style. During this time, the team assesses your child's individual strengths and areas for improvement to create a personalised learning plan aligned with their specific objectives. A trial session is offered to ensure a good fit between the tutor and student before committing to tutoring. This initial phase allows parents and the provider to establish whether the tutoring model will support the child's learning journey effectively.
