Our approach
Hand therapy at Hands UP Rehab involves meticulously tailored assessment and treatment focusing on restoring function and preventing dysfunction across the entire upper limb. Each patient receives a comprehensive, evidence-based approach that combines therapeutic interventions such as custom splinting, rehabilitation exercises, pain management, and advanced laser therapy. Sessions are personalised based on the specific injury or condition, individual needs, and real-life goals, with a strong emphasis on education, empowerment, and treating the whole person. The team integrates long-term rehabilitation into treatment plans, offering ongoing support for both acute recovery and chronic condition management. Your therapist works collaboratively with other healthcare professionals when needed to ensure coordinated, expert care throughout your recovery journey.
Meet the team
The team includes Jade Bickley-Tyler, the founder and Clinical Director, who is an Occupational Therapist and Accredited Hand Therapist with over 17 years of clinical experience in hand and upper limb rehabilitation, and Jane Waddy, a Senior Upper Limb Physiotherapist with over 20 years of experience and extensive expertise in complex hand, wrist, elbow, and shoulder conditions. Both clinicians bring specialised qualifications—Jade holds a Master of Occupational Therapy and has worked across hospital and community settings, while Jane graduated with a Master of Physiotherapy from Curtin University and has experience at Princess Margaret Hospital for Children. The clinical team is supported by Jill Petley and Karlee Miller, the Clinic Coordinators, who help ensure smooth operations and patient support from first contact through to final appointment. Together, the team is dedicated to expert care, personalised support, and exceptional outcomes.
Your first visit
At your first appointment, the therapist will conduct a thorough assessment of your hand and upper limb injury or condition, taking time to understand your specific needs and goals. This detailed evaluation involves examining the structures involved and gathering information about how the injury is affecting your daily life and function. The assessment process forms the foundation for developing a personalised treatment plan tailored to your circumstances. Based on the assessment findings, the therapist will discuss their clinical recommendations and work with you to establish clear rehabilitation goals. You can expect expert clinical reasoning and a comprehensive approach designed to guide your recovery and get you back to doing what matters most.
