  • Our approach

Gameplan employs evidence-based therapies using the latest research to support children's speech, language, literacy and learning development. Every child is treated as a unique individual with a tailored approach, rather than using a "one size fits all" method. Therapy sessions are 50 minutes long and involve targeted intervention devised in conjunction with school reports and educational assessments, delivered through fun and meaningful activities. The practice takes a collaborative, team-based approach that works with families, schools and other specialists to achieve common goals. Parents receive regular updates, consultation and advice, plus weekly progress reports to keep them informed of their child's development.

  • Working with families

Parents play the most important role in a child's development and Gameplan recognises that most of children's speaking and listening happens at home with family. The practice works with families by educating them about language and literacy and providing a toolbox of strategies to work on at home. Parents receive regular weekly progress notes by email, and progress is reviewed each week with goals reviewed each term. Gameplan also communicates and coordinates with educators to ensure a consistent approach across home, school and therapy, as children learn best when specialists, families and schools work together toward common goals. Decisions about whether individual, group or home-based programs would be most beneficial are made in partnership with parents based on their child's needs.

  • Meet the team

The team comprises speech-language pathologists and educators with in-depth understanding of school curriculum and the language and literacy foundations that underpin all school subjects. The practice is led by Director Olivia Connelly, and includes senior speech-language pathologist Bronte Fraser, supervising speech-language pathologist Emma Squires, and individual speech-language pathologists including Alexandra Klem, Megan Sequeira, Lois Meier, Romy Zaghis, Hally Nyhu, Clare Duyker and Jenna Pedersen. There are also allied health assistants (Eliza Walsh, Hanan Alkhatib, Fatima Osman) and a Minecraft Missions Commander (Veronica Senior) on staff. All therapists are trained in evidence-based practice and can build up foundational skills while incorporating grade-appropriate curriculum work.

  • Your first visit

Your first appointment is a free, no-obligation consultation held at the Brunswick East location where you can meet the team and discuss your child's difficulties. During this initial chat with Olivia, you'll explore your concerns and how Gameplan can best assist. Following the consultation, speech-language pathologists will conduct any necessary standardised assessments to identify your child's strengths and challenges, which then inform the creation of targeted goals for intervention. This comprehensive assessment process results in a detailed report with specific recommendations for support at home and school, and weekly therapy sessions begin once goals are established.
