Our approach
Family Talks Clinic takes a multidisciplinary family-focused approach to mental health care for young people. The clinic specializes in working with the entire family rather than the young person in isolation, recognizing that mental health issues often have a 'ripple effect' that impacts different family members in different ways. This comprehensive approach encompasses medical expertise alongside individual and family therapy to address the evolving and unique needs of each young person and those who support them. By treating mental health within the family context, the clinic aims to ensure healthier outcomes not just for the individual, but for the whole family unit.
Working with families
Family Talks Clinic places strong emphasis on family involvement, with the belief that working with the entire family is the best way to support a young person experiencing mental health issues. The clinic recognizes that mental health problems can create tension, uncertainty and emotional strain across families, and that different family members are affected in different ways. Rather than treating the young person in isolation, the clinic integrates family therapy and support into their care model. This family-centered approach ensures that parents and carers are partners in the treatment process and that the wider family context is addressed.
Meet the team
The multidisciplinary team at Family Talks Clinic includes seven psychiatrists (Dr Mohsen Mirzaie, Dr Adrian Falkov, Dr Kylie Gulliford, Dr Miranda Sonntag, Dr Sean Mahon-Daly, Dr Michael Mackeritich, and Dr Daniel Cremin), four psychologists (Dr Jane De Matteis, Suzanne Byrne, Jessica Davis, and Michelle McKune, plus Kyo), and two therapists (David Hong and Yvonne Grant), supported by administrative staff. The psychiatrists and psychologists bring medical and psychological expertise to assess and treat a wide range of mental health conditions affecting children, adolescents, and young adults. This diverse team works together in a family-focused, multidisciplinary model to provide comprehensive care tailored to each young person's needs.
