  • Our approach

Cova Psychology uses a range of well-established, evidence-based therapies tailored to each person's needs, including cognitive behaviour therapy, EMDR, schema therapy, internal family systems, and acceptance and commitment therapy. The approach is grounded, steady, and practical, with a strong emphasis on trauma-informed care that recognises how past experiences affect mental health and wellbeing. Sessions are shaped by what you're dealing with, what makes sense to you, and the pace that feels workable. The therapeutic relationship is central to the work, with psychologists providing a supportive, attuned connection that helps you feel safe and emotionally understood. Rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach, treatment is individualised and grounded in the latest psychological research to help you achieve meaningful and lasting improvements.

  • Meet the team

Cova Psychology was founded by clinical psychologists Sarah Valentine and Chris Coleiro, who remain actively involved in the practice and clinical care across the clinic. The team includes psychologists and clinical psychologists with a broad range of qualifications and experience working with vulnerable populations across public mental health settings, inpatient units, residential facilities, and NGO services. All psychologists are registered with AHPRA and trained in evidence-based therapeutic approaches. The team works collaboratively with clients to develop individualised treatment plans, and client feedback is taken seriously to continuously improve the quality of care provided.

  • Your first visit

Your first session focuses on understanding your current concerns, personal history, and therapy goals in a process called a psychological assessment. This helps your psychologist develop a tailored treatment plan matched to your specific needs. Sessions are 50 minutes long, giving you time to explore what's bringing you to therapy and what kind of support you're looking for. The team takes time to understand your needs and connects you with a psychologist from the team who feels like a good fit. If you have a referral for Medicare, please bring it to your first appointment, and the admin team will guide you through how to access rebates.
