  • Our approach

The service uses a strengths-based, case management approach that builds on families' existing capabilities. During case work support, family workers help you identify your strengths and needs, develop goals for how you'd like your family to be, and create a support case plan to achieve them. Sessions may include counselling, parenting skills development, behaviour management strategies, and information about accessing community services. The team also offers personalised and structured parenting programs delivered in your home or their office, alongside group courses and workshops across the Central Coast.

  • Working with families

The service involves parents and carers as central partners in the process. Family workers meet with you at your first appointment to understand your needs and help develop goals together. You are actively involved in negotiating your support case plan, which outlines how the team will help you achieve your goals. Sessions can be delivered in your home, at the office, or at other agreed locations. The service also encourages families to participate in group courses, workshops and peer support groups, and families can stay in touch with what's happening through a mailing list.

  • Your first visit

At your initial assessment appointment, a family support worker will meet with you to understand your family situation and identify your strengths and needs in relation to any challenges you're facing. Together, you'll develop goals that reflect how you'd like things to be in your family. Once your goals are determined, a support case plan is negotiated with you, outlining how the service can help you work towards achieving those goals. You may also be offered brief visits for advice, information and referral if that's what suits your situation.
