Our approach
Allied Therapeutic Services uses a play-based learning philosophy where progress goes hand-in-hand with joy and engagement. Sessions are tailored to your child's unique needs, whether they involve physical, sensory, or cognitive support, and can be delivered one-on-one, in family sessions, or in small groups depending on what works best for you. Therapists work closely with you and your support network to help your child thrive in daily life—at home, school, or work—using evidence-based approaches across occupational therapy, speech pathology, positive behaviour support, psychology, and physiotherapy. Sessions are generally 60 minutes long (45 minutes of therapy and 15 minutes of note-taking), with progress reviewed at the end of each session. The service offers flexible delivery options including in-clinic, telehealth, home visits, school, or community settings, so you can choose what suits your family best.
Working with families
Your involvement as a parent or carer is central to the service. The team offers a range of session options including family sessions, parent/carer consultations, and support worker training to ensure you're actively involved in your child's progress. After each assessment, you'll receive recommendations that may include strategies and education tailored for you and your carers. The service emphasizes working closely with your support network and ensures communication about your child's goals and progress. You can also choose from different session formats and delivery options that work best for your family's needs.
Meet the team
The team consists of NDIS-registered, qualified clinicians including psychologists, speech pathologists, occupational therapists, and behavioral support specialists. Sessions are run by qualified therapists or allied health assistants under the supervision of a senior therapist. The team works collaboratively across disciplines to ensure every piece of your child's care fits together. With clinics across North Queensland (Ayr, Cairns, Mackay, Townsville, and Charters Towers), the service brings together experienced professionals who are committed to helping children reach their individual goals.
Your first visit
In your first session, the team will conduct a comprehensive assessment to understand your child's needs and goals, then develop a personalised plan for ongoing support. You'll receive a detailed report after the assessment that includes session notes and any recommended homework or strategies. The report may also include recommendations for further training or education for you, your carers, or other family members. The frequency of future sessions—whether weekly, fortnightly, or monthly—will be determined based on your child's needs and your NDIS funding (if applicable). The team works with you to ensure the support plan aligns with your family's circumstances and your child's goals.
