  • Our approach

Speech therapy at Alexandra Austin focuses on helping children communicate clearly through speaking, understanding, and forming sentences. Sessions work with each child's individual strengths and needs, drawing on activities that are fun and engaging. The practice takes a family-centred approach, recognising that parents are a child's most effective teacher and providing home activities to support therapy goals. Alexandra works closely with other professionals involved in your child's care, including teachers, psychologists, allied health therapists and doctors. The clinic-based practice operates Wednesday to Friday, 8am to 5pm, with most families attending weekly or fortnightly for 30-minute sessions.

  • Working with families

Parents are actively involved in therapy, as they are recognised as their child's most effective teacher. You will be given fun activities to do at home to support your child's progress between sessions. The practice works with parents to provide a therapy service that suits the child and the whole family, discussing factors like session frequency and duration to fit your family's needs, and taking breaks from therapy when appropriate.

  • Meet the team

The practice is led by Alexandra, a graduate of the University of Sydney with a Bachelor of Applied Science in Speech Pathology. She is a certified practicing speech pathologist and member of Speech Pathology Australia, with experience working in children's hospitals, community centres, and private practice. She has specific experience working with children who have ASD, developmental delay and ADHD, and is committed to working closely with individual families and the other professionals involved with each child's care.

  • Your first visit

The first appointment is usually an assessment involving three parts: a discussion with parents about their concerns, observation of the child in play or conversation, and testing of the child's speech and language skills using age-appropriate assessments that are designed to be fun for the child. The initial assessment takes up to 60 minutes and costs $400 (or over 60 minutes for $500), and includes a written report. No referral is needed—you can refer your own child directly to the practice.
